Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 500 Partee St., will observe its annual homecoming and Family and Friends Day Sunday.
The day begins with the morning service at 10 a.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Michael E. Ellis, presiding elder of the Greensboro District, West Central NC Conference of the AME Zion Church.
A graduate of Salisbury High School, Ellis received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University, Madison, N.J. Ellis serves as coordinator of the religious studies department and professor of religion and philosophy at Livingstone College.
Dinner will be served immediately following the morning service at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church.
The afternoon service will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the speaker will be the Rev. Kirk A. Reid, the newly appointed pastor of New Hope AME Zion Church, Spencer. Reid is a native of Burlington. He was ordained in 1995 by the Southern Baptist Association. He was appointed to New Hope in June 2009.
St. Luke Baptist
The members of St. Luke Baptist Church at 410 Hawkinstown Road will celebrate the Rev. Arthur L. Heggins’ 17th pastoral anniversary this Sunday.
The speaker for the 11 a.m. service is associate pastor, the Rev. David Johnson. Dr. Wayne B. Murdock, pastor of Assemblies of Christ Church Ministries, High Point, is the guest speaker for the 3 p.m. service. Murdock has 29 years in the ministry and is an author, lecturer and community leader.Lyerly EvangelicalROCKWELL ó Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, Rockwell, will celebrate homecoming Aug. 16 at the 10:30 a.m. service.
The Rev. Paul L. Pickler, pastor of Smithwood United Church of Christ in Liberty, will preach.
Pickler grew up in Lyerly Church, and graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary.
Pickler has pastored Smithwood UCC since 2002.
Lyerly Evangelical Church was founded in 1891 by Dr. J.M.L. Lyerly, who also founded Nazareth Children’s Home. W. C. Gaither Jr., is the current pastor.
Calvary Baptist
The public is invited to attend “Left Behind: Tribulation Force” in the auditorium of Calvary Baptist Church, 2255 East Ridge Road, Sunday at 6:30 p.m. The movie is based on the “Left Behind” book series. The movie is rated PG-13.
Crown in Glory
The Altar Guild of Crown In Glory Lutheran Church will be having a family fashion show, “Stepping Out In Style” at the Salisbury Civic Center on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. Admission is $5.

DENTON ó Larry Bettencourt will speak at Central United Methodist Church in Denton this Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service.
Bettencourt has invested over 20 years working with teenagers as a youth pastor, teacher and football coach. He is president of Finishline Ministries where he equips church leaders.

Trinity Baptist
The Rev. Dennis Coates, pastor of Faith Baptist Church of Ottawa, Ohio, will preach at Trinity Baptist Church, 735 Klumac Road, in the 11 a.m. service.
Coates founded Faith Baptist Church in 1986. He is a graduate of Tennessee Temple University and currently is pursuing a graduate degree at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.

The Rev. Jerome M. Cloninger will be installed as pastor of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at 4 p.m. this Sunday.
Cloninger and his family recently moved back to North Carolina after serving for six years at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, Neb.
He is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa.

Miller’s Chapel AME Zion Church will be celebrating its annual homecoming Sunday. The Rev. Hezekiah R. Lawson, the church’s pastor, will be bringing the morning message at 11 a.m.
The annual homecoming fellowship lunch will not be served due to construction.
At 3 p.m., the Rev. Morgan Glenn, pastor of White Rock AME Zion Church, will preach, accompanied by his choir and congregation.
The annual review will be held Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 17-19, at 7:30 p.m.. The Rev. Dr. Calvin Miller, presiding elder of the Winston-Salem District, will be the evangelist.
Free school supplies
Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 719 S. Caldwell St., will sponsor a “Back to School Giveaway” next Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
School supplies will be packaged according to grade level: pre-K, elementary, middle school, and high school. Parents or guardians are required to accompany their school age children for this giveaway.
