Piedmont Players, Symphony receive Mona Lisa Wallace Arts-in-Education grant

The Rowan Arts Council has awarded Mona Lisa Wallace Arts-In-Education grants to the Piedmont Players Theatre and the Salisbury Rowan Symphony Society.
Piedmont Players has received an award of $3,000 for their youth theater program including camps and youth productions for second through twelfth graders.
A $3,000 grant was awarded to the Salisbury Rowan Symphony Society to enable composition clinics in two local high schools with composer, Persis Vehar. Clarinetist Eileen Young will perform at the clinic with excerpts of her solo for “City of Light.”
These grants were named for Mona Lisa Wallace who was instrumental in producing “Light up the Night for the Arts,” a holiday fundraiser for the Rowan Arts Council grant program. A second “Light up the Night for the Arts” is being planned for Dec. 12, 2009.
In other action, the board approved a re-allocation of funds for the Rowan Investment Company grant received by Piedmont Dance Theatre for a special school performance of the Nutcracker. They requested to use the funds for a production of Peter and the Wolf with the Salisbury Symphony as a means of educating young children about music and dance.
