Rowan-Cabarrus offers Continuing Education courses in Cisco Networking and PC Repair
SALISBURY ó Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is offering two short-term technology training programs this fall in Cisco Networking and PC Repair.
Rowan-Cabarrus has a limited number of seats available in its fall 2011 semester for short term Cisco certification training (day and evening classes). Prospective students are encouraged to register soon.
This training is provided through Rowan-Cabarrusí Cisco Academy and prepares students to take the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) certification exam, ICND-1. The course and certification will prepare students for entry level network and helpdesk support positions. CCENT is also the first step toward achieving Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections and is one of the most-sought-after certifications in the computer network and security industry.
Rowan-Cabarrus offers state-of-the-art equipment in the classroom, coupled with a hands-on introduction to networking and internet technologies, using tools and hardware commonly found in home and small business environments and will also develop additional skills required for computer technicians and help desk technicians. It provides basic training in routing and switching, cabling, remote access, IP addressing, wireless configuration, network security, troubleshooting, and network services such as file sharing, e-mail services, and related ISP services.
Costs for the 100-hour Business Networking Technology include the tuition of $175 and approximately $175 for the textbooks. Classes for this course begin on August 31, Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30-10:30 p.m. in Salisbury or Tuesday/Thursday/ Friday from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in Concord.
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will also offer a Basic PC Repair course in the fall semester. The course will focus on preparing a student for entry level PC Repair Technician jobs, as well as the CompTIA A+ Certification Exams. The instructor will utilize classroom instruction, online videos and a heavy emphasis on hands-on labs to prepare students with the skillsets to build, configure, maintain, & troubleshoot personal computers.
The CompTIA A+ certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians. The international, vendor-neutral certification proves competence in areas such as installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting. CompTIA A+ certified technicians also have excellent customer service and communication skills.
CompTIA A+ is part of the certification track for corporations such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Other technology companies, including CompuCom and Ricoh, have made CompTIA A+ certification mandatory for their service technicians. Tuition for the 60 hour PC Repair and A+ Training is $175. The textbook is approximately $125. Basic PC Repair classes begin on August 30, Tuesdays and Thursday from 5:30-9:30 p.m. in Salisbury or Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in Concord
