area sports briefs: East jayvees roll again

East Rowanís jayvee football team beat Carson 35-14 on Thursday in Granite Quarry.
Seth Wyrick caught three touchdown passes for the Mustangs, while Noah Drye threw three TD aerials.
Sam Wyrickís 39-yard pass to his twin brother, Seth, opened the scoring for East, and Drye passed 14 yards to Sam Wyrick for a score before halftime.
In the third quarter, Drye hit Seth Wyrick with TD passes of 45 and 39 yards.
Sam Wyrickís TD pass to Zach Earnhardt closed the scoring for the Mustangs (3-2, 1-0 NPC).
Sheldon Kaminski kicked five PATS for East.
Austin Hill and Nick Breedlove led Eastís defense. Thomas Farmer had an interception and Jason Shuping had a fumble recovery.
Eastís jayvees plays at West Iredell next Thursday.
n North Rowan put together a strong overall effort in its YVC opener and beat South Stanly 45-6 in Spencer for its first victory of the season. The Cavaliers are 1-3.
n A.L. Brown beat Robinson 41-12 to stay undefeated.
E.J. Dean scored three touchdowns to lead the Wonders.
Junon Miller had a TD run and a TD catch. Andrew Ramirez had a strong game at quarterback and threw a TD pass.
Christian Carter blocked a punt and Hayden Taylor recovered the ball for a touchdown.
n Davie beat Thomasville 20-6 to improve to 3-2.
n Prep volleyball
South Rowanís varsity volleyball team won games this week against East Rowan and Concord.
The Raiders beat the Mustangs 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 in NPC play. South beat the Spiders 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 18-25, 15-12.
Southís jayvees beat East 25-8, 25-9 and topped Concord 25-11, 25-16.
n Davie County drilled R.J. Reynolds 25-15, 25-12, 25-10 in a CPC matchup on Thursday.
n Prep cross country
Carsonís cross country boys had a perfect score of 15 in a meet with Gray Stone held at Morehead Park in Albemarle on Thursday.
Junior Jacob Fink won the meet in 18:21. Other top finishers for the Cougars included Kyle Gillis (2nd), Chase Johnson (3rd), Nathan McMasters (4th), Nick Thornton (5th), Ryan Craft (7th) and Chris York (8th).
nGray Stoneís Girls beat Carson 15-40.
The top runners for Carsonís girls were Katie Nichols (6th), Jakey Clark (7th), Miranda Wyatt (8th) and Talley Medina (9th).
n Prep tennis
East Rowan defeated Carson 9-0 on Wednesday and beat South Rowan 9-0 on Thursday.
Singles winners for the Mustangs were Lizzie Weaver, Megan Bullins, Rebecca Agner, Kayela Wilson, Hannah Pressley and Lauren Thomas.
Doubles winners were Weaver-Bullins, Agner-Wilson and Pressley-Thomas.
n Local golf
Todd Conrad made a double eagle on the par-5, 435-yard No. 9 hole at Corbin Hills on Thursday.

n The Country Club of Salisbury Womenís Golf Association played a Texas Scramble low net tournament.
Jo Shaw took first place with a 66. Blanche Glover and Adrienne Oxendine shot 70s to tied for second, while Joan Harris shot 71.
n The Rowan County Honor Guard Golf Tournament will be held at Crescent on Friday, Oct. 7.
The cost is $50 per person.
Tee time is noon. Lunch is served at 11 a.m.

n Middle school football
West Rowanís eighth-graders beat Corriher-Lipe 46-0.
Kreshon Alexander had scoring runs of 7 and 22 yards.
Dearius Phillips scored on a 65-yard run. Jalyn Cagle scored from 20 yards out. J.T. Sanders scored on a 14- yard run. Phillips, Cagle, Sanders, Noah Williams and Dylan Phillips added two-point conversion runs.
Tanner Lloyd returned an interception 67 yards for a TD.
The offensive line of Jeremy Fortson, Shane Barber, Caleb Epps, Carter Gannon, Sam Kennedy, Hezekiah Banks, and Wade Phillips did an outstanding job blocking for the Bulldogs (2-0). The defense was led by Amara Morris, Dagan Williams, Pedro Nichols and Kacey Otto. Otto and Austin Flynn recovered fumbles.
Corriher-Lipe is 0-2. West plays at home against Knox on Wednesday.
n North Rowan beat Erwin 42-6 on Wednesday.
Xavier Partee had rushed for 130 yards and scored two TDs.
Maddox McCloud, Ty Corpening and Zeth Robinson scored a TD each.
Defensive leaders included Jake Pritchard, Isiah Corpening and Justin Wagner.
Lee Sells had a 20-yard interception return for a TD.
North plays at home against Southeast next week.
n Middle school tennis
Southeastís girls tennis team swept North Rowan 9-0.
Singles winners for the Patriots were Mackenzie Menius, Rachel Gunsch, Maggie Hollar, Brienne Leach, Samantha Liddle and Mackenzie Koontz.
Doubles wins came from the pairings of Menius-Gunsch, Hollar-Liddle and Koontz-Morgan.
n Middle school soccer
Salisbury Academy lost at Hickory Christian 4-2 on Thursday.
After a scoreless first half, the Jaguars scored twice.
Andreas Kalogeromitros executed perfectly on a 25-yard set play for a goal.
Kalogeromitros scored again on a PK after Marcus Corry, attacking from his center-mid position, was fouled in the box.
Hickory Christianís top player then scored four goals.
ěWe are continuing to improve every day,î Salisbury Academy coach Tom Sexton said.
n College volleyball
Catawba Valley Community Collegeís Breckin Settlemyer (Carson) had nine kills in a 3-0 loss to Surry on Thursday.
n Guilfordís Taylor Whitley (Carson) had 20 assists and seven digs in a 3-0 loss to Washington & Lee on Tuesday.
n In Averettís 3-1 win against Peace on Wednesday, Nicole Barringer (South Rowan) had 13 assists, five digs and three kills.
