Sigma Gamma Rho kicks off 2011-12 sorority year
The Lambda Epsilon Sigma Salisbury Alumnae of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc .kicked off their sorority year this month.
The organization is looking forward to serving the Salisbury-Rowan county community through their motto of “Greater Service, Greater Progress.” Sigma Gamma Rho began the year by donating school supplies, through Operation Big Bookbag, to local program that works with youth, donating shoes for their Soles for Little Souls campaign, and coordinating volunteers for the Race for Babies through the March of Dimes.
On Friday, the organization will participate in Tom Joyner’s Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day. To kick off their Hattie McDaniel Breast Cancer Awareness month activities, the organization will volunteer at the Komen Race for the Cure on Oct 1. Also during the month the chapter will celebrate Unity Pink Ribbon Day on Oct. 26. The chapter will host their Rhoer Club meeting and Monthly Chapter meeting on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the Rowan County Public Library on Fisher Street. The chapter is currently taking applications for the Rhoer Club, which is for middle and high school girls. Lambda Epsilon Sigma Alumne Chapter and their undergraduate chapter, Mu Tau at Livingstone College is excited about a wonderful year of service to the local community.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority’s aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization’s programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically.
