Applications now available for Christmas bicycle event

SALISBURY ó Applications are now available at the Salisbury Police Department for the annual Gerry Wood Auto Group Bicycle Event.
The department plans to give out 118 bicycles this year, and helmets and candy canes will be distributed along with 85 teddy bears.
Applications must be returned by Dec. 9 to be eligible for the program.
Salisbury Police began the event in 2002, under then-Police Chief Mark Wilhelm. It focuses on helping at-risk children interact with officers in a positive atmosphere.
The program has continued under current Chief Rory Collins.
Collins said in a press release that he is grateful for Gerry Wood Auto for hosting the event.
ěOur officers look forward to this event each year, as well, because it gives us a chance to brighten a childís Christmas and also enables our community to see another example of how much we truly care for our citizens and the development of our youth,î Collins wrote in a press release.
Salisbury Police officers will be distributing the early Christmas present on Dec. 23.
Applications can be returned to the Salisbury Police Department at 130 E. Liberty St.
