Accused ‘wheel jackers’ caught following chase

SALISBURY — Authorities chased down and arrested two men accused of unscrewing lug nuts on the wheel of a for-sale Chevy in the parking lot of Team Chevrolet Thursday night.
Salisbury Police officers charged Jeffrey Curtis Chapman, 36, and Shawn Dale Jones, 40, with misdemeanor larceny, tampering with a vehicle and resisting arrest.
Officers were called to the Jake Alexander Boulevard business about 11:30 p.m. after a surveillance company notified law enforcement of two suspicious persons on the vehicle lot.
Authorities chased one of the men through a nearby field toward Julian Road. He was later arrested. A second suspect was caught near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
In addition to a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, police found two unscrewed lug nuts and a wrench tightened to a third.
A tire jack was also found at the scene.
Jones and Chapman were placed in Rowan County jail under $5,000 bond each.
