Local Bridge by Myrnie McLaughlin: Holiday Schedule

It’s hard to believe but the holiday season is upon us. This means that we will be cancelling some games in November and December and having some special games as well.  There will be no games at the Women’s Club on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and Dec. 30. Evergreen bridge at Rufty Center will be cancelled Friday, Nov. 28, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Our Christmas party will be at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center on Friday, Dec. 19.  Since most of our players attend both games, we will combine both club parties into this one date.  There will be a club championship game for the Women’s Club on Tuesday, Nov. 18 and for Evergreen on Friday, Dec. 12. Winners at these games receive higher points.

When corrections were made, winners at Evergreen Nov. 7 were: First, Dick Brisbin and Pat Featherston; second,  Gloria Bryant and Judy Hurder; third, Chuck and Margaret Rimer; fourth,  Stella Shadroui and Maggie Canup, and  fifth, Loyd Hill and Marie Pugh.

Once again we were treated to a challengingly odd distribution, making for a hand fun to bid and play. No pair except the Shadroui/Canup pair made their bid,2CS but didn’t have the best N/S score. Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin took those honors defeating the only E/W pair to bid. Their bid was 2SE-2.

All other bids by N/S (3NS, 3CS and 3DN) went down.  The Chuck Rimers had the best E/W score defeating opponent’s 3CS 3 tricks.  It would seem that NT would be the best bid for N/S but it wasn’t.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11 the winners at the Women’s Club game were: tied for first/second, Gloria Bryant and Wayne Pegram with Pat Macon and John McLaughlin.
