Local Bridge with Myrnie McLaughlin

Tournament Frenzy

Our bridge player population has been growing steadily, much to my delight. Our new arrivals are very good players and are an asset to our games. With this growth has come an increase in attendance at tournaments. A number of them went in February to the Wilmington Regional and brought home many points.

We also had a large Salisbury turnout for our own Dogwood Sectional. Next up was the National Tournament in New Orleans, La.  The Jeffers were winners of 14.96 points, mostly Gold. The participants of those games have been really bitten by the bridge bug and most are headed to Gatlinburg, Tenn. for the Regional in mid-April. We wish them a safe journey and much success.

Friday, March 27 Evergreen game’s winners were: N/S First, Harold and Carol Winecoff; second, Maggie Canup and Wayne Pegram; third, Ruth Bowles and Marie Pugh.  E/W First, Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin; second, BettyBonner Steele and Betty Bills; third, Stella Shadroui and Judy Hurder.

Maggie Canup and Wayne Pegram  had the best N/S score bidding and making 3SN  while both the Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin pair and Stella Shadroui and Judy Hurder pair had the best E/W score by pushing N/S to 5SS* setting the contract 2 tricks. The Michael’s convention works well here allowing South to bid both majors at the same time.

Tuesday, March 31 Women’s Club game was well attended. Winners were: First, Sonja McHone and Jayne Shive; second, Judy Hurder and Wayne Pegram; third, Pat Macon and Brenda Pace; tied for fourth, Nancy Stanback and Myrnie McLaughlin with BettyBonner Steele and Maggie Canup.

Hope you all are having a wonderful Easter day.
