Solid Rock Church of God

Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., will host a Community Health Fair sponsored by Novant Health and Novant Health Breast Center today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with free blood pressure monitoring, free diabetes screening, education and more. Friendship Baptist Church

Friendship Baptist Church, 100 Porter Road (I-85 & Peach Orchard exit 72), will be hosting an end of the summer youth rally this evening at 6 p.m. There will be special music by Salvation Slavic Baptist youth choir of Charlotte and guest speaker will be Dustin Stokes of Blackshear, Ga. Mt. Zion Baptist Church

The gospel music concert “Miracles, Signs and Wonders” will be held today at 6 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave. It is free and open to the public. A love offering for Robert Stephen Gilmore and Jalisa Gladden will be received. Scheduled performers include singers Rebecca Stinson, Virginia Rush, Teresa Moore-Mitchell, Unity N Praise and Jamera McQueen; Christian rap artists Gregory Peoples and Robert McDaniel; praise dancer Amber Latrice Gilmore; mime Zoe Parsons; The North Rowan Connection Choir directed by Milton Griffith; and Gufu Gospel Comedian Willette Johnson. The MC for the evening will be Cheryl “Chirlgirl” Patterson.

Emmanuel Baptist Church

There will be special music by the choir led by Crystal Cornelison, at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Sunday morning. At the 6 p.m. service the guest speaker will be the Rev. Joe Johnson. Host pastor is the Rev. Richard Gross.

 

Union Lutheran Church

Union Lutheran Church will hold its annual homecoming on Sunday, with the Rev. T.C. Plexico bringing the message.

Rev. Plexico served Union congretaion from the time he graduated from Southern Seminary in 1951 unitl 1953. He has served several interims since then. He has since retired and is serving as Pastor Emeritus of Union congregation. A covered dish lunch will be held in the grove following worship. Union Lutheran is located at 4770 Bringle Ferry Road. Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church

CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 5890 South River Church Road, celebrates homecoming on Sunday at 3 p.m. The visiting speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Bertha Pittman, pastor of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church of Cleveland. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Organ Lutheran Church

Organ Lutheran Church (founded in 1745) is having Homecoming Day on Sundaywith former pastor, the Rev. John E. Pless, as the guest preacher. The Rev. Pless was pastor at Organ from 1992 until his retirement in 2005.

On Homecoming Day there is no early service, just 9:30 Sunday school and 10:30 worship.

This will be Organ’s 92nd homecoming celebration and the 55th year in its present church building. Bring favorite covered dishes and desserts and have lunch in the picnic shelter area following the service. The Rev. Carlin W. Ours is host pastor.

 

Antioch Missionary Baptist 

GRANITE QUARRY – Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave., will celebrate homecoming on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be the Rev. Rickey Johnson. At 3 p.m. the Rev. Cornelius N. ROCKWELL – God’s Tabernacle for Believers will host an appreciation service for its ministers on Sunday at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Timothy Bridges, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church of East Spencer.

The honorees include Minister James Miles, Minister Marvin D. Anderson, Evangelist Rosilyn Anderson, Evangelist Georgianna Williams, Elders Calvin and Shirley Cowan, and Elder Nellie S. Johnson.

St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church

Dean Orbison will be the featured singer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Second Sunday Singing on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m., presenting a program of spiritual and contemporary Christian songs and music.

He is well-known as the director of the Honors Chorus at East Rowan High School, which was selected Grand Champion for five consecutive years in choral festivals along the east coast. Having served as director of the Concert Choir of Rowan County, The Catawba College Youth Choir and the Singing Christmas tree, he now serves as Minister of Music at West Corinth Baptist Church in Mooresville.

 

ATC Ministries 

At The Cross Ministries, 1915-1917 W. Innes St. Suite 103, is celebrating five years of service to God and the community beginning with Pastor Dee Ellison’s 10 a.m. message on Sunday.

Still Standing For God Crusade 2015 services are Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Former Legion Building at 300 Legion St. in Granite Quarry (which is the starting location of the ministry).

Neel Road Baptist Church

Neel Road Baptist Church has called Dr. Jim Harris as interim pastor as of July 26.

Prior to this, pastor Harris has been pastor of churches in Washington, California and Texas before coming to be pastor of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church in Salisbury.

He left here for West Virginia and full time evangelism before becoming the founding pastor of Friendship Baptist Church In Salisbury.

Harris retired from Friendship Baptist Church in 1995, and except for being full time pastor of Memorial Baptist Church from 2000 to 2006, he has been active in evangelism, missions and interim pastorates.

Dr. Harris is a native of henderson, And his education has included bob jones university, furman university, southwestern baptist theological seminary, east texas state university, and luther rice seminary.

Having been licensed to preach the gospel june 9th, 1954, dr. Harris has been in the ministry for over 61 years, and he states that his goal is to preach the gospel of jesus christ anywhere and everywhere that god opens the door for as long as he lives.

 

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries

Gospel concert by Men Standing for Christ 

The Charlotte Folk Society’s new Gathering season opens Aug. 14 with a gospel concert by Men Standing For Christ, an evening of African American quartet-style gospel singing. Founded at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church near Johnson C. Smith University in 1956, Men Standing for Christ carries on the tradition of four-part harmony that dates back to the 1920s.
