CBD store opens on South Main Street

SALISBURY – Tyler Wildes says CBD products can relieve anxiety and pain and lead to better sleep.

“It can be very good for calming the central nervous system,” said Wildes. “It’s been shown to induce the deep stage of sleep that everyone needs … with that same calming effect that helps with anxiety.”

Wildes recently opened Afterglow Hemp Co., a hemp and CBD store at 2710 S. Main Street, Suite A.

The store offers products created from CBD or hemp-derived cannabidol, a product that has become well-known nationwide.

The North Carolina General Assembly in December passed a bill that made it legal for farmers to grow hemp, a cannabis plant that has low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

“It is a big topic of discussion,” Wildes said.

Wildes said lotions made with CBD can help those with sports injuries.

The shop sells a number of items, from tincture oils, gummies, T-shirts partially made of hemp, lotions, and bath bombs.

Afterglow Hemp also sells moisturizing creams and massage oil, as well as CBD-infused oral sprays that can aid sleep, give energy boosts, and assist in weight loss and pain relief.

Wildes said people often have misconceptions about the products and may not even be aware of what it can do.

He said many confuse the product with marijuana, although the two are very different.

“Hemp has a very high CBD content and a very low THC content, while marijuana is the exact opposite, with a very high THC content and a very low CBD content,” Wildes said.

He envisions adding more hemp products at his store down the line, as well as more clothing and bags created from the product.

Wildes also envisions expanding and opening multiple locations throughout the area.

Other local CBD businesses such as PhenomWell, which opened in March, also offer CBD products.

“Business is good, but the most important thing is our customers. Many of them say that they benefit from the products,” said Sam Post, owner of PhenomWell.

“One challenge also is the stigma of CBD and hemp,” Post said.

Afterglow Hemp Co. is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sunday.
