Letter: Sayings then and now

Here are some famous sayings:

• “Give me liberty or give me death.”

• “I regret I have but one life to give to my country.”

• “Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.”

• “Let us not fear to negotiate but let us not negotiate in fear.”

That was then. The following is now:

• “Don’t tell the truth about my lie.”

• “Don’t obey a subpoena. He will pardon you if you are convicted.”

• “I don’t like POWs. I like those not captured.”

Pardon a Navy Seal convicted of a war crime. That is the law for all nations. You can bet his military advisers didn’t approve of that pardon.

Trump doesn’t take advice from the military or ambassadors. He has faith in his Russian ambassador, but he didn’t invite him to his meeting with Putin. Trump didn’t bring his interpreter, either. Putin had his; the only one that knows what was said is that interpreter. What did Trump have to hide?

If politicians and citizens of the U.S. believe that Trump was right in bombing Iran, then they must believe the Japanese were right in bombing Pearl Harbor. A sneak attack is a sneak attack, no matter the size or who did it.

Trump must have learned something from his good friends — the dictators of Russia, North Korea and China.

Here are some of Trump’s sayings:

• “Lock her up.”

• “Drain the swamp.”

• “Witch hunt.”

• “No collusion.”

• “Mexico will pay for the wall.”

• “I’ll shut down part of the government if you don’t give me money to build the wall.”
